On 26 April 2024, the Committee for the Scrutiny of the First Minister is holding a scrutiny session about support for Care Experienced Children with the new First Minister, Vaughan Gething MS.

We have produced a briefing setting out some of the key issues the Committee may cover. Our recently updated Statistical Briefing on Care Experienced Children 2024 from March also sets out latest published statistics.

This Committee scrutiny follows the publication in 2023 of two Senedd Committee reports about how this group of children are supported, summarised in our article Radical reform of services for care experienced children.

During this session, Vaughan Gething MS will also be scrutinised on his priorities as the new First Minister. We’ve produced a separate briefing setting out Vaughan Gething’s pledges in his Welsh Labour leadership campaign and commitments made since he became First Minister.

The Committee’s meeting can be watched live, or later, on SeneddTV. A transcript will also be published.
