On Tuesday 21 June Members of the Senedd will debate and vote on amendments tabled during Stage 3 of the Tertiary Education and Research (Wales) Bill’s journey through the Senedd’s legislative process.

We have produced a summary of the changes made to the Bill at Stage 2, which took place in the Children, Young People and Education Committee on 12 May 2022.

Bill Summary: Tertiary Education and Research (Wales) Bill – Stage 2

The Bill dissolves the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and creates a new Welsh Government sponsored body to be known as the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research. This body will be responsible for the funding, oversight and regulation of tertiary education and research in Wales.

The Bill and Explanatory Memorandum are published on the Senedd website. Our Bill Summary, published on the Bill’s introduction, explains what the Bill does and how it came about.

You can watch the proceedings for the Stage 3 debate live on Senedd.TV on 21 June.
