A new Bill going through the Senedd could mean that registering to vote for Senedd and local government elections in Wales becomes a thing of the past.

The Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Bill was introduced into the Senedd on 2 October 2023.

The Bill would allow the Welsh Government to introduce new pilots that would automatically register voters for Welsh devolved elections. It would also establish a new all-Wales body responsible for co-ordinating Welsh elections, create a new online voter information platform, and introduce measures to increase diversity in the Senedd and local government.

This Bill Summary provides an overview of the provisions in the Bill, and signposts to further information.
