Fly-tipping in Wales

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and refers to waste illegally deposited on land. It poses a threat to communities and wildlife and negatively impacts mental health due to reduced environmental quality in local communities.

This research briefing:

  • introduces fly-tipping as an offence;
  • outlines its impacts and causes;
  • provides an overview of current and previous Welsh Government fly-tipping strategies;
  • explores the scale of fly-tipping in Wales today; and
  • considers the penalties and enforcement actions associated with fly-tipping.
