Bovine Tuberculosis

Bovine tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant challenge for the agricultural sector in Wales. This briefing provides an update on the current status of bovine TB, the measures being implemented to control and eradicate the disease, and the proposed changes to bovine TB management in Wales.

A consultation on a refreshed TB Eradication Programme, closing in February 2022, sought views on a wide range of proposed actions, including changes to bovine TB testing protocols, bovine TB compensation arrangements and informed purchasing.

Following the consultation, the Welsh Government announced the Wales Bovine TB Eradication Programme Delivery Plan in March 2023 which extends to March 2028.

In our briefing we also summarise key aspects of the Delivery Plan and stakeholders’ reactions to proposed changes in bovine TB policy.
